Calliope Award Nominations are due this Friday!

Another great season has come to an end for the youth of America SCORES Chicago, and now it is time to think about all of the people that make our program possible. With the help of school teachers and administrators, Board and Development Board members, coaches, volunteers and other community members, America SCORES Chicago successfully provided soccer and poetry programming to 500 students in the City’s public school system.

Now is the opportunity to recognize the individuals who you believe have uniquely helped advance the efforts of America SCORES. The Calliope Awards, named for the Greek Muse and meaning "beautifully voiced", will be presented at the Red Carpet Poetry Slam on Thursday, January 28, 2010. These yearly awards distinguish two people who have used their voices to help the organization continue its mission of combating illiteracy, obesity and poor decision making on the City’s West Side. Last year's award winners were Jeff Welsh, President of Chi-Town Futbol, and Leif Elsmo, former Board Chair.

Whether the nominee volunteered at our soccer game days, was involved in organizing a community event, helped shape a program fundraiser, or spread the word to the community and funders, now is the time to acknowledge their involvement in bettering the lives of the youth and the communities we serve. Please submit your nomination to the America SCORES Chicago office by Friday, December 4, 2009 by emailing the Calliope Award Nomination Form to Heather Walles and describing the efforts and commitment the individual made for the organization.
